Welcome traveller to the world of Algrunda, A world filled with Magic
and mysteries, and strong warriors covered in steel. This is no place
for the weak and the weary as behind every corner lurks danger and good
luck is sparse.

I will try to guide you in your exploring of this world by telling of my
own experiences that i have had when travelling across the face of this
world

CHAPTER ONE : The Citizens of the world.

In this chapter you will learn about the different races that inhabit
this world and would be concidered civilizations now, or in their past.

Humans:
Humans, as a thumb of rule have spread through the different continents
as a plague (or so the other races claim) due to their quick procreation
and their urge for expansion and power they have settled into several
large cities spread around the world, neglecting the needs or pleas of
the "inferior" races who's teritory they shamelessly invaded and took as
their own.

The other races tollerate the precense of the humans in this world
barely, and allways keep a suspicious eye out on large groupings of
humans gathering as it may mean yet another war comming to their lands.

Elves:
No one knows where these sylvan creatures came from, exept that they
were not here at the beginning of time, many legends speak of ships
landing from the stars who brought the elves to this world, yet never
has any proof been given for the immigration of the elves. They have
been here for longer the most historicians can remember in human
standards, and quickly mastered the lands surrounding them for centuries
till the human empires started to form, keen on destroying the elven
nations who had taken the most fertile land for themselves when they
first arrived.

The elves as a result are haunty of the other races, allways suspicious
of possible plots to overthrown one of their nations. The only thing
till now keeping back possible threats is the superiour mastery of magic
that the elves hold compared to the other races.

Dwarves:
Sturdy and strong, everlasting like the rocks where these people live
in, the dwarves of Algrunda stand proud. Their history claims that they
were the first race to emerge from the primordal ooze that made this
world, and the unending passage ways they have crafted through the
mountain ranges would be able to convince any sholar. They see no
threat in no one, and have a attitude that could convince a god that
they are talking to equals. Expert metal workers their skills are
requested by allmost all the races whenever the need for superiour work
is present.

Gnomes & Halflings:
Gnomes & Halfings are commenly believe to not be on this world, due to
their extermination several hundred years ago by more violent human
tribes. It is likely that there are perhaps a handfull of gnomes or
halflings living in extremely remote area's that have not yet been
visited by either of the other races.

Half Orcs:
Half orcs, the progency of humans and orcs, they have a superiour
physical body compared to their human parents, but slightly weaker
compared to their orc parents. Their lack in muscle is made up by their
better understanding of the world and the knowledge they seem to be able
to process. By no means geniouses, they stand their own living in the
human cities where they often hire themselves out for missions or armed
protegées.

Other Races:
There have been many other races, which have been forgotten in history
or have since long secluded themselves into fortified or remote
locations as to not be subjected to the laws of other races. In
General, it is possible for any number of unlisted races to be present
on this world, shrouded by either magicks or by plain simple being in
such barren remote locations that the costs and effors to explore into
these regions would not be worth it. Very seldomn do any people of
these races leave their familiar grounds but a few expections have been
known.
(possible races include, half ogre, lizardman, ….)

CHAPTER TWO: The Character classes.

Fighters:
This is the most common class in the world, they provide the backbone troopforce of the human armies, and in peacetimes act as gaurds to ensure peace remains as long as possible. Not allways the brightest people, but one can most surely concider them to be among the most strongest that walk this world.
As phb

Barbarian:
Mostly found within the northern lands where the climate is hostile and danger is even more present then in the rest of the world, Barbarians are fierce warriors, savages in the eyes of the more developed lands yet he is a warrior to take into concideration. He might not be able to read or write in many cases, but the language of fighting is one he has mastered to ensure his own survival.
As phb

Thieves:
A profession hardly spoken off exept when shrouded in shadows, none of the nations admit they use thieves for dirty work such as gathering information on enemies, yet, all of them use them when it can provide them with valuable information. A none legal profession in most all of the nations, local governments may close their eyes if the caught burglar or thief is willing to join the ranks of the nation they were caught in to provide 'services' whenever required.
As phb

Sorcerors:
People gifted with the power to draw upon the weave have been known since the beginning of time, awed and feared by others due to the power they weild some have managed to rise to positions of great power. The Sorceror has been known to be a great ally within a small group of adventureres where his spells have saved his companions from a certain death, a valuable addition to any party, he is not one to triffle with.
As phb

Wizards:
What drives people to spend their time studying from old moldy tomes and parchemts of paper? Only they can answer that question and most will avoid the subject. The answer is simple tho, power.
It can't be denied that a wizard, even tho he may lack the physical powers, he makes up for it with the diversity of magical energies he can channel to create or destroy.
As phb

Ranger:
People of the Woods, protectors of the wild. They spend their times mostly within the deep embrace of green forests or sloping mountain edges they are at home in natural enviorements and favor this above city life, through their decication to nature they make exellent guides if they can be convinced to leave their forest. Living a mostly solitary life, his manner might be concidered gruff by others their standard.
As phb

Druids: Not present due to a too violent world.

Clerics:
Found allmost in all social rankings of the races, clerics have proven themselves usefull over and over again in this dangerous and deadly world, even tho there are many churches spread over the world, each proclaiming their god to be the road to salvation and ultimate power the churches try to keep their squables to a minimum as they rather try to gain more followers who pay tribute to their god and church Especially the gods of war find much followers within the human cities and northern tribes as well as with some of the elven nations where the anger over the loss of their family and lands has started to take a foothold where cries for war against the human nations has recently been more heard then in the past.
As phb

Paladins:
Defenders of the weak, protectors of the needy and vigilant guardians, they live by their code of conduit set forth by the church of their diety, a life not easily fullfilled and their duty never ended, they are the epitome of virtue and good. As phb.

History, myths, legends and facts.

As i am writing this book, we are the year 1249,Year of the Dragonrise.
Our world is an old one, and the history has only been written down over the course of the last hundred of years but you will come upon ruins of civilizations long lost, that none know where they came from or who they were, still, some myths and legends stem back from these ages and i will give you some of the popular stories here, how much of them is fact and fiction, you shall have to find out for yourself.

?, Year of Renewal

No exact date is known, but many believe them to have arrived soon after the awakening of the elder races.
The legends speak of stars burning high in the sky and forest burning as the stars crashed down upon the earth, how much of this is true and how much is fear talking we cannot know for sure, when i have talked to the elders of the elves, they refused to answer any questions remotely connected with their presence here.

What we do know, is that the elves were not allways here, and their comming had shifted the balance of power in the past more then once, seemingly peacefull in their dealings at first, things didn't stay long for that

"We came into contact with them only shortly, frail and distrustfull they have ignored our messages we sent to them to get better aquinted, we have seen their weapons, a sheen metal and straight arrows we can not hope to win against, our hopes lay that they have come here with peacefull intentions and that one day we might find a way to live alongside eachother"
Exert of the scrolls of Thezias, Empire of the Sun, signed by King Gregulo

632, Year of the Wood Wars
It happened out of nowhere, the elves claimed the fertile grounds to themselves by driving out the orcs into the barren sandlands and plains, the orcs were illprepared for the organized invasion and hit and run tactics of the elves and it became a slaughter instead of a war short months after the offensive started.
The elves unleashed a sorcery never seen before, completely destroying patches of land as if it was a seed being blown in the air, in less then a day, great prisctiline building towered the land, shimmering with the magic they were constructed, the humans their fear was re kindled and the hope for a peacefull co existance for both races was swept away as the elves turned their attention to several human settlements, they did not exterminate the humans as they did with the orcs, but the fear was building.
In less then a few years, the results of the forced orcish exodus would become obvious as the orcs sought for a new home…

648, Year of the Rumbling mountains.

Not much is known from this period, exept by the dwarves who perhaps had most to endure in this period, the myths and legends of strong dwarfs, and relentless defenders of cities were born at this time, and before.
What is known of this period is that it was the first rise of the orcish warlords, in the summer of 648, a horde of orcs and goblins led by the warlord Kul'dzaar a fiersome looking orc, and his witchdoctor Gurm talontoe descended upon the mountains guarded jealously by the dwarfes, a terrible battle started which thinned both the orcish and dwarvish population and lasted for several years, during the time of the siege, many new ways of mass destroying invaders were sucessfully developed and tested by the dwarves, while the orcs on their side brought foul and evil magics to bear with them, lending them strenght in combat and vigor beyond death itself.

The war ended after 15 years, with both sides their resources depleted and the warlord laying death at the entrance of Barak'zhur, at that time the last standing stronghold of the dwarven empire, in their bravery and boasting the orcs had allowed a dwarven assassin by the name of Grendill Darklight to slip into the orcish encampent and ended the life of the warlord, the orcish troops demorilized and without a strong lead seeped back into the forests and few strongholds they still held over the land. The war was won but at a terrible price.

The memories of this war still cling fresh into the mind of the dwarves and thte gates of Barak'Zhur remain closed till this day, all but abandoned by a few stuborn dwarves who try to maintain the glory this fortress once held. It is said to be haunted by those who died here in defence of the citadel, and that they will rise again when the dwarven empire is under it's greatest treat ever.

Change the ranger, or don't allow to take take only 1 lvl in it.

Suggestion if you decide to change the ranger:
Drop all his basic granted feats at first level and give him 1 bonusfeat at first lvl and a few bonusfeats thereafter.

Might be worth taking a look at the 'prefered enemy' thingy ...

seems like a basic world to me --- why develop it if there are no major differences with other worlds ??? Sorry, hun - i just can't get the point of changing well known worlds with another that is not different at all ? Call me difficult.

as i replied in a mail to Cat (shoulda done it here )

there's still an odd 600 years of history to go give the world time to develop before concluding a yeah, or a njet
